Progress of Euhalophyte Adaptation to Arid Areas to Remediate Salinized Soil

چکیده

With the increasing shortage of water resources, current management saline–alkali lands in semi-arid and arid areas has gradually transformed from “flooding irrigation with drainage” past to combination controlling regional salt balance, phytoremediation, comprehensive utilization halophyte resources. However, soil salinization caused by natural anthropogenic factors still been a major global environmental problem, which changes chemical physical properties soil, deteriorates quality underground water, decreases biodiversity, contributing loss productivity succession halotolerant species. Euhalophytes, as materials for have confirmed be effective species improving soils. They can redistribute salts profile through interaction their desalinization potential leaching, thereby preventing secondary long-term reclamation saline soil. In this review, adaptation mechanisms euhalophytes soils are generalized views morphological, physiological, molecular aspects evaluated remediate removal promoting leaching. Euhalophytes not only sequestrate inside central vacuole cells tolerate higher stress means organ succulence, ion compartmentalization, osmotic adjustment but facilitate infiltration leaching root–soil interaction. The root system’s mechanical penetration increases porosity, density, well stabilizes aggregates. Moreover, suitability phytoremediation situations low precipitation non-irrigation some agricultural practices need taken into account avoid returning forms litter deep tillage altering distribution. Hence, planting should adaptation, desalinization, prospective commercial values, such foods, biofuels, medical development alleviate crisis enhance arable land.

Applying Biochar and Mineral Amendments to Remediate the Chemical Properties of a Saline-Sodic Soil

The present study was intended to improve the chemical properties of a saline-sodic soil using the individual application of alfalfa residue and two biochars produced from sugarcane bagasse and walnut shell, at the weighting ratio of 5%; their concomitant application with gypsum, aluminum sulfate and the mixture of these two chemical amendments was considered. The experiment was conducted in th...

Coupled modeling approach to assess climate change impacts on groundwater recharge and adaptation in arid areas

The effect of future climate scenarios on surface and groundwater resources was simulated using a modeling approach for an artificial recharge area in arid southern Iran. Future climate data for the periods of 2010–2030 and 2030–2050 were acquired from the Canadian Global Coupled Model (CGCM 3.1) for scenarios A1B, A2, and B1. These scenarios were adapted to the studied region using the delta-c...

Assessment of the use of industrial by-products to remediate a copper- and arsenic-contaminated soil.

Two water treatment sludges (WTS-A, WTS-B), two red muds (RM), and red gypsum (RG), all rich in iron oxy-hydroxides, were added to a soil highly polluted with As and Cu at 2% (w/w) to reduce metal bioavailability. Because the amendments increased soil pH to approximately 6, a lime treatment to the same pH and an unamended treatment were included for comparison. All the amendments had significan...
